Indian Army evacuates 5 truckers stuck in snowfall at 1500ft in north Sikkim

Gangtok, Jan 31 (UNI) Indian Army on Sunday evacuated all5 truckers and several other civilians stranded in snow due to heavy snowfall in north Sikkim.
Three truck drivers and other occupants were rescued from Yume Samdong, at an altitude of 15,300 ft. The Indian Army carried out night evacuation of the drivers and co-passengers stuck in heavy snow, in the remote area between Yume Samdong and Lachen, in north Sikkim. These people were returning from Yume Samdong to Siliguri and got stuck in the evening. They could not move due to accumulation of 2 ft deep snow, making driving extremely dangerous.
All the people were evacuated and taken to Army Post where they were provided medicine, food and warm clothing for night stay at the camp,’ said Lieutenant Colonel P Khongsai.

Kolkata, Apr 19 (UNI) An estimated 66.34 percent of 5.6 million electorate exercised their franchise till 3 PM in the first phase election to three Lok Sabha seats in North Bengal with Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri recording 65.54 per cent, 66.23 per cent and 67.28 per cent polling respectively.
