In an earlier press conference, Mr Surjewala, charging the Modi Government and Ms Swaraj with misleading the country for four years on the death of the 39 Indians abducted in Iraq by the ISIS, said the Minister should personally apologise to each of the families for keeping them in the dark and provide them a 'respectable' compensation for starting their lives afresh.
The Congress also accused the Government and the Minister of being insensitive and ''inhuman'' on the issue and indulging in politics.
''The Modi Government has crossed the limits of insensitivity in the matter of the 39 Indians abducted in Iraq by the ISIS. They were abducted in June 2014. The entire world, as well as our neighbours, had been confirming that the 39 Indians are no longer alive but seven times -- on June 23, 2014, July 9, 2014, July 17, 2014, July 24, 2014, August 6, 2014, July 22, 2015, and July 16, 2017 -- the Government and the Minister told the family members and the country that they were alive and kept giving them assurances They even went to extent of saying that the Indians are alive and are being provided food and other requirements.
