India Women crumble as Aus Women win opener

Brisbane, Dec 5 (UNI) India’s batting woes continued in Australia as they were bowled out for a meagre 100 in the first ODI of the three-match series at Allan Border Field here on Thursday. A career-best 5-19 from Megan Schutt and a composed debut from Georgia Voll saw the hosts chase down the target in just 17 overs to claim a dominant victory.
Facing a must-win challenge to secure their first series win in Australia, India’s hopes were dashed early as they struggled to capitalise on good batting conditions. The visitors’ batting order crumbled under pressure, with wickets falling regularly. Their total of 100 was the lowest in women’s ODIs since they were dismissed for 79 by Australia in 2012.
Schutt spearheaded Australia’s attack, making early breakthroughs and dismantling the Indian top order. The veteran pacer’s menacing outswing led to her first-ever five-wicket haul in ODIs. India’s batting collapse was compounded by sloppy running between the wickets and poor shot selection, leaving them unable to build partnerships.
