India wins by 5 wickets, Dinesh Karthik Man of the Match

Kolkata, Nov 4 (UNI) Wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik (31 not out) and debutant
Krunal Pandya (21 not out) steered India safely to a facile victory five wickets victory
against West Indies in the first T20 play at Eden Gardens on Sunday night.
After India restricted the visitors to 109 /8 with 3/13 from Kuldeep Yadadv. India
made 110/5 in 17.5 overs. It was WI one of the poor batting at Eden, who won T20
world champioship in 2016 at the same stadium .
Chasing West Indies one of the lowest score 109/8 in 20 overs, India too found
hurdles in the very first over when captain Rohit Sharma (6) edged the last ball off
Oshane Thomas's first over, which silenced the stadium. WI demanded a review
and the TV umpire held the appeal with a catch from Denesh Ramdin behind the
wicket. Acrobat catching by Ramdin, who leaped across to his left to snaffle that
with both hands.
Thomas was again proved deadly to south paw Shikhar Dhawan (3) as the
speedstar from WI uprooted his middle stump afrer the batsman had kept quite
big gap between his legs and bat. In fact Dhawan has no clue to 147kph from
big Thomas. India were then 2/16 in 2.5 overs.
Young Rishab Pant (1), who was hugely praised by the Indian skipper in the
pre-match media conference, was quick to depart from Eden pitch when he got
out at the hands of Darren Bravo from Carlos Brathwaite's deadly delivery.
Brathwaite changed his pace to lure the young Indian, who lost his eye sight
completely and ended up slicing it in the air off the top-edge.
Brathwaite struck hard and again in India's middle order line getting a big
wicket of KL Rahul (16) on a similar fashion. Again Darren Bravo was the
catcher at deep square leg. Brathwaite picked up his second wicket and India
were in further trouble. Rahul looked a disappointed man as he slammed his
willow onto the turf. India were then 4/45 in 7.3 overs.
However, wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik and Maninh Pandey held
the crease intact until they stiched 38 together in 5 wicket before Manish
Pandey departed at 19 runs.
Debutant spinner Khary Pierre took Manish Pandey's wicket as he held the
catch of his delivery when India were 83 for 5 wickets. Manish Pandey hit two
boundries facing 24 balls.
Oshane Thomas took 2/21 and captain Carlos Brathwaite conceded only 11
runs and bagged two scalps
Choosing to bowl first after winning the toss India got early breakthough in
first ball of third over from Umesh Yadav delivery when West Indies
wicket-keeper-batsman Denesh Ramdin edged to safe gloves of Dinesh
Karthik (2) behind the wicket. WI were then total 16.
Next was Shai Hope (14) to go, the another opener, a silly run out when
both the batsmen were found on the same crease while attempting for a
single off Khaleel Ahmed.
Manish Pandey backing up wicket keeper Dinesh Karthik and when the
latter failed to get ball from KL Rahul the former held it and uprooted the
stumps, a sad exit for Shai Hope.
Jasprit Bumrah got India's 3rd wicket when Shimrom Hetmyre skied up
for a big shot and Dinesh Karthik had his second cacth for the night . WI
were then 3/28 in 4.4 overs.
Then hard hitter Kiren Pollard ( 14) , all rounder Darren Bravo (5), Rovman
Powel (4) and captain Carlos Brathwaite ( 4 ) had to go one after another,
Kuldeep Yadav was virtually terror for the visitors and picked up three wickets
conceding only 13 runs.
Debutant Krunal Pandya had also one wicket, a big one of Kiren Pollard,
and Umesh Yadav ended with a wicket conceding highest 36 runs.
Jaspreet Bumrah (1/27) and another debutant Khaleel Ahmed 1/16. All
the bowlers had pelnty of dot balls, signyfying how they kept the WI batsmen
in awe. 59 dot balls were bowled in first 17 over when the visitors had only
82 runs. Debutant pacer Khaleel Ahmed also got his first internaitonal wicket
when he got Fabian Allen ( 27) as Umesh Yadav got the catch.
WI newly inducted Fabian Allen was the highest scorer for the visitors as
their all big names batsmen came and gone in quick succession. Allen as
he tried for a big hit off Khaleel Ahmen fell short at the boundary line and
Umesh Yadav got the catch . Fabian had 4 hits to the boundary for his 27
runs in 20 balls.
