Washington, Jun 27 (UNI) Waxing eloquent President Donald Trump asserted that he will work proactively with India to fight Islamic terrorism - a pledge responded with equal enthusiasm by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said the fight also should be directed against "safe heavens" of terrorism. President Trump yesterday vowed to "destroy radical Islamic terrorism" and said that both the US and India have been affected by the "evils of terrorism". Addressing media at White House after delegation level talks with PM Modi and also one-on-chat, Mr Trump said, "The relationship between the United States and India is very, very strong and very, very powerful". “The future of our partnership has never looked brighter,” he said. I guess it’s worked very well in both cases," he said. Earlier after according a warm welcome in the company of the First Lady, Mr Trump praised Modi a a "great prime minister" and credited him for economic growth in India. But on serious diplomacy, terrorism figured prominently today;s agenda. In fact, much to the satisfaction of Indian side, hours before Modi-Trump maiden meeting, the US State Department imposed sanctions on Syed Salahuddin, the Pakistan-based leader of Hizbul Mujahideen. The Trump administration also has shown interest to help India with defence technology, In what was described as preparing the ground for President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks, India and the US today discussed prominently issues like counter-terrorism cooperation. "It is very clear that given the challenges that the two countries have faced and continue to face and the rest of the world also faces from this global menace of terrorism, the discussions in the courtesy call touched upon how the two sides have cooperated in countering terrorism," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Gopal Baglay told reporters after US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met PM Modi here. "There was a strong focus on terrorism and cooperation in counter-terrorism," he said. The US Defense Secretary James Mattis also separately called on Modi. More UNI XC DEVN SDR 0432
