India to showcase its defence manufacturing might at DefExpo beginning tomorrow

Chennai, Apr 10 (UNI) India's defence manufacturing capabilities and rocket manufacturing capacities would be projected at the four-day DefExpo 2018 to be held for the first time from Wednesday to April 14.
The DefExpo, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 12 in the presence of Defence Minister Ms Nirmala Sitharaman, aims to show India as a credible manufacturer and exporter of military inventory items.
For the first time, India would project its defence manufacturing capabilities to the world at the expo to be held at Tiruvidanthai in Kancheepuram district on the East Coast Road, about 50 km from here.
This was reflected in the tagline for the Expo, which is ‘India: The Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub’.
The DefExpo would brand India as a exporter of several defence systems and components for all the three Services--Army, Navy and Air Force.
Secretary of Defence Production Dr Ajay Kumar, during the curtain-raiser press meet, said DefExpo would be the ideal venue to showcase Indian success stories like UAVs, Indian version of Howitzer equivalent gun, and locally made aero components.
Concurrently, all the major arms exporters of the world, barring China, would be in attendance and more than 40 countries slated to participate in DefExpo.
This has been the pattern for the last two decades since DefExpo was first launched in New Delhi and the event attracts a high level of attention, for India was seen as a major market for global arms manufacturers.
Among the 539 Indian exhibitors and 146 international exhibitors, nearly 15 per cent of the total exhibition space has been booked by MSMEs.
The Indian participation included majors like Tata, L and T, Kalyani, Bharat Forge, Mahindra, MKU, DRDO, HAL, BEL, BDL, BEML, MDL, GRSE, GSL, HSL, MIDHANI, Ordnance Factories, and many others.
Major international companies include Lockheed Martin, Boeing (USA), Saab (Sweden), Airbus, Rafael (France), Rosonboron Exports, United Shipbuilding (Russia), BAE Systems (UK), Sibat (Israel), Wartsila (Finland), Rhode and Schwarz (Germany) among others would showcase their products.
While showcasing strengths of India’s substantial public sector, it would also uncover India’s growing private industry and spreading MSME base for components and sub-systems.
