India’s digital economy to touch $1 trillion in 5-7 years: Prasad

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Confident that the country will soon emerge as a global player in digital economy, Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad today said India will become a 1-trillion dollar economy in next 5-7 years.
In his keynote address after the launch of ICEGOV 2017 event here, Mr Prasad said, “Indian digital economy is going to become a 1 trillion dollar economy in the coming 5-7 years. India is not only for digital inclusion, India is also a technology driven economy.” Terming India’s digital prowess is being resonance in the global market, he said India has become a manufacturing hub for electronic products as over 70 mobile makers have set up their plant in India in just two years. On rising cyber security and its impact, the minister added, “India is willing to have widest collaboration world over as far as cyber security is concerned. … we see cyber security as a great potential for employment. .. India is emerging as a manufacturing hub for electronics products. We have received almost 25 billion dollars investment in India. In the last two years, about 72 mobile manufacturing plants have come in and 30 component makers.” The 10th edition of ICEGOV is being organized to use of technology to transform relationships between government and citizens, businesses, civil society. Delegates from 60 countries are participating in a 3-day event being held here. In a bid to attract foreign students for knowing India’s digital initiatives, he said, “The government will ensure provisions for 100 students from all the participating countries to do PhDs in Indian Universities in the field of electronics and information technology.” Maria Manuel Leitão Marques, Minister of the Presidency and of Administrative Modernisation, Portugal, “Our goal is to create a better world.
