India reports over 6k cases for seventh day in row, SC makes migrants fare free

New Delhi, May 28 (UNI) India on Thursday recorded over 6,500 fresh cases for seventh consecutive day, taking the Covid tally to 1.58 lakh cases, much due to enhanced testing, more relaxation in lockdown and movement of migrants from cities to hinterlands.
The Supreme Court, taking note of migrants distress due to loss of avenues from coronavirus-induced lockdown and lapses on part of both Centre and state in making arrangements, ordered not to charge for their travel back home.
The court ordered that fare should be shared by originating and destination states and railways to be in charge of providing them nourishment.
The country lost 194 more lives, second highest in a single day in past 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 4,532. The total number of cases have now soared to 1,58,333.
A fresh addition of 3,266 recoveries, took the cured and discharged to 67,691. The current recovery rate now stands at 42.75 per cent.
As the Lockdown 4.0 is nearing its end on May 31, Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba took stock of the situation of 13 cities that are being considered the worst affected by the novel coronavirus pandemic with around 70 per cent of the positive cases in the country.
Municipal commissioners of Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi, Ahmadabad, Thane, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata/Howrah, Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Jaipur, Jodhpur, Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu) and Thiruvallur (Tamil Nadu) attended the meeting along with the District Magistrate of those districts in which these 13 cities fall.
During the meeting, the measures taken by the officials and the staff of the municipal corporations for the management of COVID-19 cases were reviewed and need to work on high risk factors, indices such as confirmation rate, fatality rate, doubling rate, tests per million people were discussed, a senior Government official said.
