India relives pride of Pokaran-I nuclear test on 52nd anniversary of historic blast

Jaisalmer, May 18 (UNI) India today marked 52nd anniversary of historic first nuclear bomb test held at the Army field range in Pokaran of this desert district in Rajasthan.
Notably, a 107 metre deep shaft was dug, nuclear device of 1.25 mtr diameter placed on hexagonal metallic tripod was lowered down to the bottom and was packed well, by post midnight on May 17-18, 1974.
Just as the team of scientists spent sleepless, eventful night while giving final touches to the history-making task, in New Delhi then Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi who herself was monitoring the entire affairs was also more or less in the same state of mind. Waiting for the good news she sat by the phone in her chamber early in the morning, a revisit in memory lane reflects.
