India ready to take ties with Central Asia to next level: EAM

New Delhi, Dec 19 (UNI) India is ready to take ties with the five strategically important Central Asian countries to the next level, based on the four Cs of Commerce, Capacity Enhancement, Connectivity and Contacts, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Sunday at the Third India-Central Asia Dialogue here.
In his opening remarks to the visiting Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Jaishankar also said that India and Central Asia must find ways of helping the people of Afghanistan.
Jaishankar thanked the countries for ensuring the safety of Indian students there during the pandemic and also for the help rendered to India during the second wave.
Jaishankar said that after being hit by the pandemic, countries are facing the test of rebuilding their economies, and India is ready to be a steadfast partner to Central Asia.
“Each one of us faces the test of rebuilding our economy, our pursuit of SDGs must also be energized; but together we can do this better, and India, I assure you, will be your steadfast partner.”
“We are very pleased at the state of our bilateral relations, but we know that the potential is very much more,” he said.
“We already have a good history of cooperation; but my message to you today is the readiness to take it to the next level.
“Our ties must now focus around 4 Cs-- Commerce, Capacity Enhancement, Connectivity and Contacts,” he stressed.
He said that despite the impact of Covid, India and Central Asia have sustained the momentum of relations.
“I’ve had the privilege of meeting each one of you in 2021 earlier, four of you in your own capitals," he said, referring to his recent visit to Central Asia.

Dwelling on Afghanistan, he said that both sides share deep-rooted historical ties with the country.
“Our concerns and objectives in that country are similar. A truly inclusive and representative government, the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, ensuring unhindered humanitarian assistance, and preserving the rights of women, children and minorities. We must find ways of helping the people of Afghanistan,” Jaishankar stressed.
He said he was confident that their discussions would set the path towards the next steps in the direction of the relationship.
Earlier, in the speech, he said the meeting comes amidst a rapidly changing global economic and political situation.
“The Covid 19 pandemic has resulted in an enormous setback to global health and to global economy. It has changed the way we imagine society, work places, supply chains and governance. It also highlights the inadequacy of the existing multilateral structures to meet new and emerging threats.”
“We need diversified supply chains and more regional solutions,” he said.
He said India has supplied vaccines to more than 90 countries, including Tajikistan and Uzbekistan….We deeply appreciate the support extended to us by the international community during the second covid wave, especially from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
“I would like to express gratitude to all of you for the great care you took to ensure the welfare of Indian students in your countries during the pandemic,” he said.
They five visiting Foreign Ministers of the Central Asian countries are: Russian Kazakbaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic; Abdulaziz Kamilov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmeistan; Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Of Kazakhstan; and Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan.
