India one of the leading countries in modern poultry development: ICAR-CCARI

Panaji, Oct 21 (UNI) India is one of the leading countries in the field of modern poultry development with an annual growth of seven to eight percent, ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI) director Eknath B Chakurkar today said.
Speaking to UNI on the sidelines of two-day third Association of Avian Health Professionals (AAHP) convention and national symposium on 'Poultry Health and Welfare', he said the government and the industry in the private sector were collaborating on larger scale in the wake of climate change affecting poultry.
Poultry along with dairy had emerged as main food basket in the country, he said and pointed out that apart from providing quality food, this industry was also emerging as a major employment generating field for people both in rural and urban areas. Stating that there was a big focus on health and nutrition aspects of poultry products, Mr Chakurkar said five percent was spent on health, close to 85 percent was spent on nutrition.
