India, Nepal cement ties, determined to move on fast track of development

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) With all blockade harming their warm ties already removed, India and Nepal today expressed determination to fast track progress on several fronts as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' vowed to take the unique relationship and friendship to a new height. Mr Prachanda, who is on his first foreign visit after replacing Mr KP Oli as new Prime Minister of the Himalayan nation, held an extensive discussion with Mr Modi, both in restricted format followed by delegation-level talks that fructified into three agreements and a shared commitment to make over the lost time during a long spell of uncertainty in Nepal. After the talks, Mr Modi announced a new line of credit of 750 million dollars to its neighbour with open border for for post-earthquake reconstruction projects. "At every step of Nepal's development journey and economic progress, we have been privileged to be your partner," Mr Modi said in a joint media address with Mr Prachanda, whom he described as a catalytic force of peace in Nepal. He expressed confident that under Mr Prachanda's "wise leadership", Nepal will successfully implement the Constitution through inclusive dialogue accommodating the aspirations of all sections of country's diverse society. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Power Minister Piyush Goyal also had separate meetings with Mr Prachanda, making his visit a truly business like trip. The two sides decided to fast track old projects, start new rail and road connectivity and increase support to development works. Both sides agreed to showcase their shared Buddhist heritage, and focus on the development of Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine.
