NEW DELHI: As our country accelerates the pace of a myriad developmental schemes, it is all the more crucial to put in place blue-ribbon infrastructure that can keep step with India’s image, needs and ambitions to take its rightful place among developed nations.

While plans are afoot to modernise, expand and build networks of expressways, railways and ports; there is a pressing requirement to have more top-notch airports. Various studies indicated spectacular growth of the civil aviation sector, which is projected to become the third largest in the globe. A well-appointed, modern and easily-accessible airport is the gateway for international travellers and dignitaries who step on Indian soil. A handful of newly-built domestic and international terminals showcased the country’s capabilities and strength in the sphere. Bringing in P.P.P. mode, premier terminals and runways were created in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and New Delhi in the recent past.

Last year, the B.J.P.-led N.D.A. government gave the nod for 18 more airports. The Civil Aviation Ministry cleared the greenfield projects aimed at easing congestion at airports, particularly in metropolitan cities.
