India hopes for 'peace and stability' in Korean peninsula through dialogue

Seoul, Feb 22 (UNI) India on Friday expressed hope that 'peace and stability' will be arrived in the Korean peninsula through dialogue.
This was conveyed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the South Korean President Moon Jae-in during their bilateral talks here.
"Prime Minister Modi appreciated President Moon Jae-in's personal contribution to the ongoing discussions in Korean peninsula and he expressed hope that peace and stability in the korean peninsula will be arrived at through dialogue," Secretary East in the Ministry of External Affairs Vijay Thakur Singh told reporters here.
On the second day of his visit here, Prime Minister Modi was also conferred with the prestigious 2018 Seoul Peace Prize given by the Seoul Peace Prize Cultural Foundation in recognition of Mr Modi's national and international contributions.
Answering questions, Ms Singh said "South Korea remains an important country for India with whom India has had deep engagements in economic field and defence".
"We also spoke about possible cooperation in nuclear space....so Korea is an important partner for us," she said adding there have been greater convergence between two sides.
"In terms of take-aways, you have seen the warmth that exists for India, the kind of friendship that exists for India and you also saw how India is recognised here and that is why Seoul Peace Prize was given (to Prime Minister)," the secretary said adding the prize was initiated in relations to the Olympics and to confer it on Prime Minister Modi was also important.
Mr Modi joined the illustrious club of the likes of Kofi Annan, Ban Ki-moon and Angela Merkel as he was honoured with the prestigious Seoul Peace Prize.
