Kozhikode, Dec. 7 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said the country has become the rape capital of the world.
Addressing a meeting on the concluding day of his three-day visit to his constituency Wayanad, Mr Gandhi said there is no safety for women in the country.
Cruelty against women and children have been witnessing an unprecedented increase in these days, he said.
Each day new rape cases are being reported from across the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been keeping mum even after an MLA of the BJP had been accused in a rape case in UP.
Mr Modi is busy talking on religion. But he should read religious books, the Wayanad MP said.
It was because the ruler of the country believes in violence and hence the people are taking law into their hands the former AICC President alleged.
But, earlier, India has been showing the right direction to the world. Now that other nations ask as to why India is unable to look after and protect their daughters and mothers, Mr Gandhi added.
