New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday that India is far from having achieved any kind of herd immunity, which necessitates that people should continue following the COVID-19 appropriate behaviour, as the country recorded another spike of 88,600 cases during the past 24 hours.
"ICMR's Sero survey report should not create a sense of complacency in people", the Minister averred.
As many as 94,503 people have lost their lives to the contagion so far, with 1,124 dying in just past one day.
New recoveries in the country have exceeded the new cases for several successive days during the period of the past nine days. There has been a steep increase in number of recovered patients. The single day recoveries on an average have been more than 90,000.
Total 92,043 recoveries were registered in the past 24 hours in the country. With this, the total number of recoveries are close to 50 lakh (49,41,627). Maintaining its upward trend, the national Recovery Rate stood at 82.46 per cent.
This high rate of daily recoveries has sustained India's leading global position as the country with maximum number of recovered cases.
As the country records more recoveries than the new cases, the gap between the percentage of recovered cases and the active ones, is continuously increasing.
The figure currently nears 40 lakh (39,85,225).
The Health Minister, during his Sunday Samvaad, said 'The Pandemic can only be fought when the Government and the society work together in tandem.'
On the emerging evidence that the disease not only impacts our lungs but other organ systems too, especially cardiovascular and renal, the Minister said the Ministry of Health has already set up committees of experts to look into these facets of COVID-19 and the ICMR is also studying this subject.
ICMR is also actively investigating and researching reports of reinfection and although the number of re-infection cases is negligible at this moment, the government is fully seized of the importance of the matter, he added.
