India clinch gold in men, women handball at SAG

Guwahati, Feb 15 (UNI) Indian men and women teams clinched the gold in respective categories of handball at the finals held at LNIPE, Sonapur, here at the ongoing 12th South Asian Games here today.
In a closely contested men's final between India and Pakistan, India avenged for its defeat to Pakistan in the 2010 Dhaka SAG to win the gold by 32-31.
The Indian men managed to win the first half by 15-11 and the margin proved to be useful for the eventual winners.
India went down 17-20 to Pakistan in the second half, but the lead by four in the first half ensured that the host clinched the gold.
The women's team of India brought home the gold as the event was introduced in the section for the first time in the 12th SAG here.
Pakistan managed to win the bronze, beating Nepal 28-24.
