New Delhi, Aug 4 (UNI) With recording over 50,000 fresh cases for the sixth consecutive day, India recorded 52,050 COVID-19 cases and 803 more deaths on Tuesday, as per Union Health Ministry update.
The total number of cases now stand at 18,55,745 while fatalities 38,938.
On the brighter side, as many as 12,30,509 patients have recovered from the viral infection, while the active cases are 5,86,298, the ministry said.
As per the data, India has clocked 66.31 pc recovery rate and while the death rate has declined to 2.10 per cent.
In the past 24 hours, over 6.6 lakh samples were tested, taking the total tests to 2.08 crores.
Among the fresh deaths, maximum 266 are reported from Maharashtra, 109 from Tamil Nadu, 98 from Karnataka, 63 from Andhra Pradesh, 53 from West Bengal and 48 from Uttar Pradesh.
So far, Maharashtra has reported the maximum at 15,842 deaths, 4,241 in Tamil Nadu, 4,021 in Delhi, 2,594 in Karnataka, 2,508 in Gujarat, 1,778 in Uttar Pradesh, 1,731 in West Bengal, 1,537 in Andhra Pradesh and 900 in Madhya Pradesh.
In terms of cases, Maharashtra is again leading with 4,50,196 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu 2,63,222, Andhra Pradesh 1,66,586, Karnataka 1,39,482 and Delhi 1,38,482.
The Health ministry, in a media briefing, restated that till now no specific drug or vaccine is available to treat COVID-19.
Dr Balram Bhargava, Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research, said so far vaccine there are 141 candidates in the world and 26 are in phase trials while India has three candidates at different phase trials currently.
He said Oxford vaccine, being manufactured by Serum Institute of India, has that got the approval for phase 2 and 3 clinical trial.
"Three Indian vaccines which are in different phases of clinical testing. The two vaccines- Bharat Biotech vaccine & DNA vaccine of Zydus Cadila have completed phase 1 and will begin phase 2 while third is Oxford vaccine," he added.
India cumulative positivity of India is 8.89 pc. Last week, it was 11 pc. States with positivity less than 10 pc are Punjab, Rajasthan, MP, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Assam, West Bengal and Karnataka.
As per worldmeter, United States is at the top with over 48 lakh cases, followed by Brazil with some 27 lakh infections. India is at the third position.
In terms of deaths, the US has recorded highest over 1.60 lakh fatalities, followed by Brazil with more than 90K. India ranks fifth in total number of deaths.
