Mumbai, Dec 5 (UNI) India extended their lead to 405 runs against New Zealand at lunch on day three of the second Test match here at the Wankhede stadium on Sunday.
New Zealand left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel bagged two wickets in the first session, getting rid of both openers Mayank Agarwal (62) and Cheteshwar Pujara (47). However, their opening stand of 107 has put India in the driver's seat.
India captain Virat Kohli joined Shubman Gill, who came in at no. 3, quickly settled in and took India to 142/2 before heading for lunch. While Kohli is unbeaten on 11, Gill is on 17 not out.
Earlier, Pujara treated Ajaz for two back-to-back boundaries in the first over of the day. Mayank hammered a six to bring up his second fifty-plus score in this Test. Tim Southee tried to control the leakage of runs and it finally paid off to Ajaz who dismissed Mayank.
The right-hander holed out to long-off, becoming Ajaz's 11th wicket. The left-arm spinner picked up his 12th wicket but not before a review, when Pujara edged while trying to defend. Ajaz remained New Zealand's only wicket-taker so far in the second Test.
