Income Tax dept raids Nashik-based land aggregator, seizes Rs 23 crore hidden cash

New Delhi, Oct 25 (UNI) Conducting a search and seizure operations on a Nashik-based land aggregator, the Income Tax (I-T) department has claimed to have found Rs 100 crore in unaccounted income with huge cash stored in several private vaults.

It has seized Rs 23.45 crore cash during the operations and scanning the documents collected from the premises.

"So far unaccounted income of more than Rs 100 crore has been detected as a result of the search operation. The evidences gathered are being examined and further investigations are in progress," said an official statement from Income Tax department.

The statement said that during the search and seizure operation, many incriminating documents including land agreements, notarized documents and other papers evidencing large scale cash transactions for acquisition of properties were found and seized.

In its crackdown on October 21, the taxmen also searched persons who had invested their unaccounted income towards purchase of large patches of land.

"Most of these persons are engaged in the wholesale trading of onions and other cash crops in the Pimpalgaon Baswant region of Maharashtra. Incriminating evidences, including records of large cash transactions made by these traders for making investments in properties have also been found and seized. Several bank lockers found during the search have been put under prohibitory orders," the tax department said.
