In an remarkable judgement Air India Pilot granted anticipatory bail in rape case

MUMBAI, Mar 02, 2021 (UNI/GM): In a path-breaking judgement, that is likely to set a precedent in law, the court of the Hon’ble Principal Sessions Judge Smt S S Sawant at Dindoshi in suburban Mumbai granted anticipatory bail to Air India pilot Akshat Sethi who was accused of rape by a prominent film and Tv actress.

The FIR No. 24 of 2021 was registered at the Oshiwara Police Station on 18th January, 2021 u/s  376(rape), 417 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

Speaking to this reporter, Senior Advocate Chandrakant B Ambani of law firm C A Legal, Goregaon Mumbai who appeared for the accused pilot said, “I thank the police and the judiciary for a fair investigation and verdict. On behalf of my client, we are grateful to all those who stood by us in these trying situation.”

Ambani further explained: We had complete faith in the police and judiciary from day one. We knew that Sethi would get justice and he has now got it.

It may be recalled that a prominent Tv actress had filed a complaint of rape against the pilot accusing him of alleged rape and cheating on the pretext of marriage.

The case initially was difficult when we filed the ABA, wherein  Anticipatory Bail is generally not allowed by the courts, but as we proceeded in the matter, we were successful in convincing the Hon'ble  Sessions Court at Dindoshi in suburban Mumbai, about the basic and strong facts in our case and the court was kind and pleased to allow the anticipatory bail.

Advocate Chandrakant Ambani has appeared as defence lawyer in the Sessions and High Courts across India. He is known for bail matters and is also defending accused in several high profile cases.
