In a Literary touch, Aavin milk sachets to sport Thirukkural

Chennai, Nov 13 (UNI) Amid a raging row over the BJP's attempt
to 'saffronise' Saint poet Thiruvallur, the Milk packets of the Tamil
Nadu state-owned ‘Aavin’, will have a literary touch--the couplet of
Thirukkural printed on them.
Ironically, a request in this regard came fom a BJP functionary and
it was accepted by the State government.
Confirming it in a tweet, Tamil Nadu Dairy Development Minister
K T Rajenthira Bhalaji said on Wednesday that “Thirukural couplets
will be printed on milk packets of Aavin after obtaining the consent
of the Chief Minister.”
On a representation from BJP IT and Social Media Wing president
CTR Nirmal Kumar to the minister, to ensure that the message of
the Sangam era epic reaches the people, the Minister accepted it.
The BJP's request and the Minister's announcement comes in the
backdrop of the BJP's attempt to 'saffronise' the Saint Poet by
posting a tweet with a Thiruvalluvar's portrait in saffron robes,
drawing the ire of several political parties and Tamil outfits.
A day after the tweet, posted to mark the release of the Thai
translation of the couplet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at
Bangkok, the Statue of the iconic Poet was desecrated in
Thanjavur, leading to an uproar and Hindu Makkal Katchi
(HMK) Founder Arjun Sampath draping it with a saffron
shawl and performing 'Aarthi' leading to his arrest.
