Islamabad, Sep 20 (UNI) Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is likely to meet US President Donald Trump in New York on September 23, Dawn reported on Friday.
Mr Khan will be in US to address the United Nations General Assembly. It will be his second visit to US after holding the top post.
Ironically, the meeting between Mr Khan and Mr Trump will come a day after when the US President meets Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22. Mr Trump will join Mr Modi in Houston in an event of Indians living in US.
Mr Khan is expected to raise the Kashmir issue both in the UN Assembly as well as in his personal meeting with US premier.
The presence of the head of two nuclear armed neighbours will be keenly watched as the tension between the two nations has risen after India removed the special status granted to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Trump in a tweet earlier this week has said, “And I think a lot of progress is being made there, a lot of progress.”
Both Pakistani and Indian prime ministers are scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on Sept 27. Mr Modi will speak first, late Friday morning, while Prime Minister Khan will speak later in the afternoon.
Indian diplomats in New York and Washington have informed Indian journalists that Mr Modi will not talk about the abrogation of Article 370 (special status). Instead, he would repeat New Delhi’s claim that Pakistan may send militants into the valley to take advantage of the volatile situation, Dawn reported.
On Wednesday, Mr Khan warned citizens against violence in Kashmir.
“If someone from Pakistan goes to India and he thinks he will fight in Kashmir ... the first person he will be inflicting cruelty on is the Kashmiris. He will have acted as an enemy of the Kashmiris,” Mr Khan stated.
