Impasse continues over wire fencing along Tripura-Bangladesh border

Agartala, Jan 28 (UNI) The stalemate continued over the erection of wire fencing along Indo – Bangladesh border in South Tripura following the objection of Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) against raising fence within 150 yards of the international border as per agreement on the second day.
However, to contain the escalation of tension South Tripura district magistrate has extended 144 of CrPC within 500 metres of the international border of Sabroom that affect normal life in the area. The BSF officials said that the fencing work will be suspended until Bangladesh counterpart agrees.
According to the report, BGB raised objections to the barbed wire fencing work in a four kilometres stretch of border from Aliyamara village to Sabroom market yesterday. The BSF had tried to convince it’s Bangladesh counterpart about the Indira-Mujib pact, which allowed fencing within 150 yards of the actual boundary.

EC suspend 2 Bengal cops in Murshidabad

Kolkata, Apr 20 (UNI) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has suspended two police officers of OC rank in West Bengal. Those suspended are officers-in charge of Saktipur and Beldanga police stations in Murshidabad district. They failed to contain violence on April 17 in their respective jurisdiction.

Patna, Apr 19 (UNI) Despite best efforts made by Election Commission and appeals from top leaders and celebrities, poll percentage in first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Bihar could reach only 48.23 per cent, which is 5.24 per cent less than polling of 2019 general elections in the state.
