IIT Delhi incubated startup launches slip-resistant crutches

IIT Delhi incubated startup launches slip-resistant crutches

New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) IIT Delhi incubated startup Flexmotiv launched all-terrain, slip-resistant crutches called Felxmo for the disabled and elderly on Friday.

"Flexmo is a 21st-century crutch that empowers the divyangjan by providing enhanced mobility with one-of-a-kind technical features. It is the world’s first self-standing axillary crutch, reduces the jarring forces in use from 5 to 10% while walking and improves the user performance by 10-20% as compared to traditional crutches," said Flexmotiv Co-founder Srinivas Adepu.

He further added Flexmo improves the surface adaptability of traditional crutches, which are limited to the point of being unusable on uneven surfaces.

“We undertook a study of 100+ users with open-ended questions to learn how effective is the current design of Axillary crutch in empowering the users life. It has been found that the design has issues related to both utility and usability”, said Girish Yadav, Co- founder, Felxmotiv.

“The product has been developed at IIT Delhi by its students Arvind S.A, Adepu Srinivas and Girish Yadav with assistance from AIIMS and funded by IITD-IRD, BIRAC BIG and Startup Oasis under Villgro’s INVENT program.

The product will be available on e-commerce platforms by the end of this month at a price of Rs 2999/.

Apart from persons with disabilities, the product is recommended for patients in rehabilitation post spinal cord injury, fracture and Arthroplasty of Knee and hips joints.
