IHC grants bail to Asif Zardari on medical grounds

Islamabad, Dec 11 (UNI) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday granted bail to former president Asif Ali Zardari on medical grounds in two money laundering cases.

A two-judge bench, comprising IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Amir Farooq, granted bail to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairperson Zardari on two surety bonds of Rs 10 million each in the corruption references lodged against him by the National Accountability Bureau.

He was arrested in June this year for his alleged involvement in money laundering of billions through fake accounts.

Zardari has been undergoing treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.

The leader moved the court on December 3, over a month after the former premier Nawaz Sharif was given similar relief.

Addressing the media outside the High Court, PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari thanked the judiciary for the relief.
