IGIA wins ACI’s ASQ 2016 Award for World’s no. 2 Airport in highest passenger category

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), a GMR led consortium, on Wednesday announced that Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), New Delhi received the coveted Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award 2016 for becoming world’s number 2 airport in the highest category of handling over 40 million passengers per annum (MPPA).
In 2 to 5 million passenger category Airport Authority of India (AAI) managed Jaipur Airport received the best airport award whereas Srinagar Airport received the award for the No. 2 position in the world in the same category.
According to a press release issued by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), I Prabhakara Rao, CEO-DIAL along with IGIA stakeholders received the award on behalf of IGIA from Airports Council International (ACI) at a glittering ceremony held in Mauritius last evening.
For the first time ever, Delhi Airport stood together with Singapore’s Changi Airport holding World number 2 position.
Delhi Airport’s Service Quality (ASQ) score rose to 4.99 in 2016 from 4.96 in 2015 on a scale of 1-5. The stellar ASQ ratings positioned IGIA over other International airports placing it only after South Korea’s Incheon airport.
In the category of 2-5 million passengers, Jaipur and Srinagar Airports have got first and second rank respectively.
Commenting on it, Chairman, AAI said, “I wish more AAI airports to come into this category so that I come next year to cheer several APDs. I urge other AAI airports to please take up my challenge. Big cheers for Jaipur and Srinagar.”
This is for the second consecutive time that Jaipur Airport has been rated the Best Airport in the World in the traffic volume of 2 to 5 million passengers per year. Jaipur was ranked as the Best Airport in the World catering to a traffic volume of 2 to 5 million passengers per year in 2016 also.
The Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards are the aviation industry's most prestigious accolades. The awards recognize the airports which have achieved the highest passenger satisfaction ratings in the ASQ Survey - the world's benchmark measure of airport excellence.
It is the only worldwide programme to survey passengers at the airports on their day of travel. Every year, the programme delivers some 600,000 individual surveys in 41 languages in 84 countries. It measures passengers’ views on 34 key performance indicators, including airport access, check-in, security screening, restrooms, stores and restaurants.
Each airport uses the exact same survey, creating an industry database that allows airports to compare themselves to other airports around the world. The ASQ Programme also has a feature that facilitates sharing of best practices among airport operators.
