IGBC inks MoU with MSCL to boost green building movement

Mangaluru, Jan 29 (UNI) The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)-Mangaluru Chapter and Mangaluru Smart City Ltd (MSCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for giving a boost to the Green Building Movement and sustainable Development in Mangaluru City.
During the ceremony which had many leaders from Government, Smart City, Industry, Media and academia present, MSCL Managing Director Mohammed Nazeer said, ''This marks a major milestone in our efforts to make the City Smart, Green and Clean''.
Speaking on the occasion, D B Mehta-the IGBC-Mangaluru Chapter Chairman said, ''This marks a new journey for collaboration between MSCL and IGBC. The Vision that the Managing Director of MSCL has laid out for the Mangaluru Smart City is powerful and can make a significant impact on the environmental issues as well as for the sustainable built environment in the City. This is the need of the hour''.
The MoU signed between MSCL and IGBC envisages the joint assessment study to evaluate the green criteria of Mangaluru as per IGBC Green cities (existing) Rating system for carrying out the capacity building of professionals involved in the development of Mangaluru as smart and Green City and for jointly participating at various platforms to spread awareness about the concept of sustainable built-environment in Mangaluru.
MSCL and IGBC would also jointly work towards the development of Green Buildings in the City, and the two parties (MSCL & IGBC) will work together towards incentivizing (motivate and encourage) Green Buildings Rating system to suit various types of construction projects.

On its part, leaders from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and IGBC will help MSCL evolve industry linkages through its vast industry base. Co-chairman og IGBC-Mangaluru chapter Ar Venkatesh Pai who was present on the dais envisioned a scenario in the new ecosystem of ‘learning and practising Green for professionals like Architects, Urban Planners, Transport Planners, Engineers, Contractors, MEP Consultants and others involved in the development of Mangaluru as a smart and green city.
A joint release from the two institutions released Wednesday said this will open doors for MSCL to showcase Mangaluru as Model Green City for the Rest of the Country. It is noted that at present Mangaluru is the only who has signed an MoU with IGBC.
MSCL General Manager (Technical) Er Arun Prabha and Mahesh Kumar-GM at MSCL were also present during the MoU signing ceremony.
