IFFI to showcase films by Goan filmmakers

Panaji, Nov 18 (UNI) The 48th Edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) which begins from November 20 here will be featuring a special section that will showcase films by Goan filmmakers.

Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) Vice chairman Rajendra Talak said, "After previewing the films, the jury has recommended Mahaprayan (feature film), produced by Abhay Jog; Marisoul 1998 (non-feature film), produced by Suyash Kamat; Zuzari (non-feature film), produced by Mandar Talauliker and Tiffin Box (non-feature film), produced by Brijesh Kakodkar to be premiered at the festival."

Based on the story of Anuja and Viraj, Marisoul 1998 beautifully captures the life of two people who are joined by the common search for love and longing. On the other hand, based on a typical Goan village, the story of Tiffin Box revolves around the life of Caitu who is suppressed and oppressed by his boss Dadhu Shet. Dadhu is well respected in his village. However, his employees are the only ones aware of his true nature.

Zuari is a Non Feature film based on the struggle and triumph of the legendary Goan freedom fighter Mohan Ranade. Mohan Ranade was convicted for crimes against Portuguese Government, whereas he was fighting for the sovereignty of his motherland and liberation for his people. He was part of a revolutionary organisation that took up arms against the Portuguese. For the first five years of prison, he was in solitary confinement in Panjim (Panaji). Later, he was deported to Portugal. He was the most prized possession for the Portuguese and he was even tagged ‘Ò Dangerous Ó’ by them.

Turning a blind eye to human grounds as politics, betrayal and apathy took centre stage, the film explores the cruel ordeal for his own freedom.

Mahaprayan is a story of Tulsidas whose wife breathes her last in a hospital. With the hospital authorities reluctant to help him move his deceased wife’s body to his village, he faces no choice but to walk the long journey with her body draped over his shoulders. The movie is one hour and 22 minutes long.

The annual event starts on November 20 and will conclude on November 28.
