By Anil Mishra Panaji, Jan 1 (UNI) Events like Portuguese Film Festival, International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and Serendipity Arts Festival left their footprint in the bygone year 2016. Goa rolled out the red carpet for eighth edition of the Portuguese Film Festival organised by Semana Da Cultura Indo-Portuguesa (Goa) which was held at Maquinez Palace in the city in October. This edition of the Portuguese Film Festival showcased critically acclaimed films in the Portuguese language from Portugal. The film festival opened with the Portuguese film Cinzento e Negro (Grey and Black) by Luis Filipe Rocha. The film festival screened six critically acclaimed films. The movies screened were Cinzento e Negro (Grey and Black)(Director-Luis Filipe Rocha), Gelo (Ice) (Director- Goncalo Galvao Teles and Luis Galvao Teles), O Inimigo Sem Rosto(Faceless Enemy)(Director- Jose Farinha), 4 Copas (4 hearts)(Director- Manuel Mozos), Virados do Avesso (Turned Inside Out) (Director- Edgar Pera), Florbela (Director- Vincent Alves do O). All the movies were presented with English subtitles. The 47th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the nine-day carnival of films, celebration, glitz, glamour and learning came, was organised in the month of November. The event saw showcasing of best of conetemporary world cinema. Republic of Korea was the focus country of the edition. The 47th IFFI paid tribute to the legendary Iraninan filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami and homage to Oscar Award winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsimond among other film personalities. IFFI 2016 had three competition sections and the awards were presented in the categories of Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Male), Best Actor (Female), Special Jury Award, Centenary Award for Best Debut Feature of a Director Competition, ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Award and ICFT UNESCO Jury Mention Award. While renowned singer S P Balasubrahmanyam was confered upon Centenary Award for Indian Personality of the Year, Korean filmmaker Im Kwon-taek was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Serendipity Arts Festival 2016, premier edition of the multi-disciplinary arts festival, was organised in the month of December. The festival from December 16 to 23 was organised with an aim to serve as an inclusive and collaborative platform for the promotion of arts and culture from the subcontinent on an international level. It also aimed to be a catalyst across the arts, to create an immersive experience shaped by the creative needs, aspirations and potential of contemporary India.
