Kolkata, Jul 17 (UNI) Calcutta High Court today blocked the state urban development efforts to put an anti-trust motion on hold in city’s Salt Lake municipality, citing procedural defects.
In a packed-court room, Justice Samapti Chatterjee set aside the notification for no-trust motion against the mayor Sabyasachi Dutta on July 18 and observed the “notification issued on July 9 has procedural defects.”
“The commissioner is not authorized to initiate the no-trust motion against the mayor,” the bench observed,” The municipality chairperson will have to issue the notice and conduct the procedure for no-trust against the mayor.”
Justice Chatterjee asked the municipality chairperson to initiate the move afresh in the coming two days.

The court on Monday admitted a lawsuit filed by the Salt Lake mayor Sabyasachi Dutta challenging notification on the no-trust motion against him.

A total of 35 TMC councillors, led by deputy mayor Tapas Chatterjee signed the motion which was submitted to the chairperson on Tuesday last seeking a no-confidence motion.

The no-confidence motion is due to be held on July 18.
