This was the first ever visit of an Indian Coast Guard vessel to the Port of Macassar, and was aimed at enhancing cooperation with Maritime Law Enforcement Agencies of Indonesia, including BAKAMLA and BASARNAS, a ICGS release said here today.
Indicative of the expanding maritime security relationship between the two nations, the visit envisions common interest of the agencies in combating maritime transnational crime, maritime search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, exclusive economic zone surveillance, humanitarian aid and disaster relief and maritime pollution response, it said.
The Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel, ICGS Samrat, had been designed and built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited and it was commissioned on January 21, 2009, meaning 'Emperor' is a testimony of Indian ship building capabilities, it added.
Equipped with the advanced and sophisticated navigational and communication sensors and equipment, the release said, adding, special features of the ship include an Integrated Bridge System (IBS), Integrated Machinery Control System (IMCS), External Fire Fighting System, Deluge system and two indigenously built medium range 30 mm gun mounts with remote control firing provisions. The 105 m long vessel is also capable of carrying a helicopter and was presently being manned by about 20 Officers and 120 enrolled personnel.
