Mangaung Oval, Jan 19 (UNI) Riding on half centuries by Captain Priyam Garg (56), opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (59) and wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel (52 not out), defending champions India posted a score of 297/4 against Sri Lanka in their opening match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, here on Sunday.
After being put into bat by Sri Lanka, India's top and middle order batsmen performed well in their first U-19 World Cup match.
Apart from the trio of Priyam, Yashasvi and Jurel, Siddhesh Veer (44), Tilak Varma (46), Divyansh Saxena (23) also made useful contributions with the bat to post a big score for India.
Ashian Deniel took 1/39, Kavindu Nadeeshan 1/58, Amshi de Silva 1/ 40, Dilshan Madushanka 1/69 were the wicket takers for Sri Lanka.
