IAF losing 10 aircraft per year in accidents

New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) A parliamentary panel has expressed its deep concerns over the continued incidents of mishaps involving aircraft of the Indian Air Force, resulting into loss of precious lives and huge money.
In its latest report, the Standing Committee on Defence said the data on accidents that took place in the IAF the last eight years, is baffling.
"As many as 87 accidents had taken place, which works out to be more than 10 per year. In these accidents, as many as 75 lives were lost," said the report, tabled in Parliament this week.
The Committee regretted the irreparable loss of human lives in such accidents.
"In addition to this, loss of huge money was incurred in those accidents. It was found that huge amount of money was lost owning to these accidents," the report said.
According to the data provided by the Defence Ministry, the loss of money incurred in the accidents runs into billions of rupees.
The costliest plane the IAF lost was C-130 J Super Hercules, the estimated cost of which was more than Rs 324 crore.
