I want to do all kind of roles, not just comedy: Mallika Dua

New Delhi, Sept 21 (UNI) After making her mark as a comedy star on the internet with shows like 'AIB' and the Bindas web series 'The Trip', Mallika Dua is all set to don the hat of a mentor in the new edition of the "Great Indian Laughter Challenge', to be aired on Star Plus.
Talking to UNI, Mallika, who will join the heartthrob of stand up comedy Zakir Khan andf Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar in the new edition of the show, to be aired on Star Plus from September 30, said that while she loves doing comedy and considers it as her favourite genre, as an entertainer and actor, she is open to doing all kinds of roles traversing across diverse genres.
'Their is no doubt that I love doing comedy.
As an actoir, I enjoyed doing plays in the genre of comedy.
However, I want to do all kinds of roles and not restrict myself to doing just comedy,' Mallika, daughter of veteran journalist Vinod Dua, says.
Mallika says that as an actor, she wants to do projects, whether on Television or films, that have a significant role for her.
'I want to take up assignments which have a significant role for me,' she said.
She added her ideal role is the one played by Kangana in 'Queen'.
'I would love to do a role like one played by Kangana Ranaut in 'Queen'.
It is a role that has all the shades in it.
I am also open to doing a dark film like 'Udta Punjab',' Mallika said.
Asked about her experience of working with Akshay, she said,'Working with Akshay Kumar is a lot of fun.
As a person, the actor is very cool and has a brilliant sense of humour.
Also, he is very nice to everyone on the sets.
As a judge and mentor, his comments add a lot of value to the show.
' Talking about her role as a judge, Mallika says,'An individual's perspective of a situation or a circumstance plays a huge role in creating comedy.
One can create comedy from even the most trivial of settings, if he or she possesses a unique and interesting perspective of this role as a mentor.
As a mentor, I will be looking at how the young comedians percieve their surroundings and how interestingly and amusingly that differs from the populart thought.
' Mallika says as an actor, she takes inspiration from actors like Pankaj Kapur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season 5 will feature Akshay as the super judge on the show, and will be lovingly referred to in the show as 'Comedy Minister'.
In the show, he will not only be seen judging the performances but also keeping the audiences enthralled with some characteristic power packed acts and antics.
Accompanying him will be an illustrious trioka of MLAs or the Members of the Laughter assembly- heartthrob of stabnd up comedy Zakir Khan, the social media comedy star Mallika Dua and talented actor and writer of films like 'Dishoom' and 'Yeh Jwani Hai Diwani' Hussain Dalal.
The four judges will don the role of mentors to the young stand up comedians who will battle for the title of the Great Indian Laughter challenge.
As mentors, they will polish the skills of the comedians, in both writing and delivery, and helping them evolve into sparkling performers.
The Great indian Laughter Challenge airs from September 30 on Star Plu on every Saturday and Sunday.
