I'm not for PM post, I want to serve Bengal forever: Mamata

Kolkata, Jul 21 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said she did not aspire to be the Prime Minister of India, but will always fight for a strong federal system with stronger regional parties in the country. Addressing a mammoth rally at Esplanade to mark the "Shahid Diwas", Ms Banerjee said her party Trinamool Congress would form the next government in Tripura. She said,'credibility of a person was essence for a politician which made the TMC very popular among the grass roots people, resulting in landslides victory this year with the party garnering 211 of the 294 seats in the West Bengal legislative assembly.' Ms Banerjee said she was not looking at the chair of the Prime Minister, rather she would love to serve West Bengal forever to make the state number one in the world in all respect. She said,'Bengal had been deprived by the previous Left Front government, Congress and the BJP at the Centre, for which the state had been paying debt, which would come to around Rs 60,000 crore in 2017-18." 'The previous Left Front government, with the consent of the then Congress government at the Centre, created debt for which my government is paying year after year. This year it would be around Rs 47,000 crore," Ms Banerjee elaborated. She also slammed the present central government, saying their wrong fiscal policy was weakening the country's economy and the burden was being passed on to the states, resulting in the erosion of federal structure. "The central government passes laws and other regulations like AADHAR card without studying anything and finally the projects failed due improper logistics," Ms Banerjee claimed. Ms Banerjee said the Centre's efforts to bring back black money from abroad resulted in 80,000 industrialists deserting their homes fearing arrest. "The Union government was using the CBI, ED and other agencies against the opposition," the TMC supremo said. She also condemned the attacks on Dalits in Gujarat saying in politics there is no room for hatred and terrorism. She warned some groups, which were surveying cattle heads in every house holds, saying they would counter it politically. "No one has the right in the country to dictate to the people what to eat and what to wear and if this is done then we will fight politically because the state has the right to protect its people," Ms Banerjee said. The Chief Minister also spelled party guidelines, gave dos and don'ts saying go deep into the people's hearts so that "everyone remembers the Trinamool Congress". Ms Banerjee asked party cadres to gear up for the 2018 panchayat polls. She said next year Shahid Diwas will be observed throughout the country as it would be the 25th anniversary. On this day in 1993, 13 youth Congress workers were killed and over 200 people injured in a police firing during a rally at Writers Buildings under the then Left Front government. Ms Banerjee said under the then LF government 270 people had been killed in police firing from 2001 to 2011. UNI PC PY 1632
