I have fought my way up hard in Bollywood: Tapsee Pannu

By Rajesh Ahuja New Delhi, Mar 30 (UNI) Films like 'Baby' and 'Pink' have catapulted her into limelight in Bollywood, making her an actress to reckon with. Accolades and critical acclaim for 'Pink' may have made her a known face in the industry today but actress Tapsee Pannu says that she has had to struggle hard to reach this far in the industry. 'Fighting my way up in the industry has been hard. From, being just another struggler to being a coveted actress, its been a tough journey,' Tapsee told UNI. Like a lot of newcomers in the industry, Tapsee said she found the going hard when she started out. 'Despite doing several films down South, I felt like a struggler. In fact, many people told me that I didn't look like a typical heroine,' she said. Tapsee, who has made a mark for herself down South, having worked in nine to 10 Tamil and Telugu films, said that despite the success of 'Baby' and 'Pink', she still feels the need to prove herself. 'Unfortunately, being an outsider in the industry means that you have to constantly prove yourself in the industry. Despite successes like 'Baby' and 'Pink', I am still not considered a so called 'A list' star. This is perhaps because I am not the daughter or sister of someone in the industry. In this sense, I am fortunate to have been offered films by some credible people in the industry,' said Tapsee, whose next film 'Naam Shabaana', a prequel to 'Baby', releases this week. 2017 is a significant year for Tapsee in that she has already featured in two films 'Running Shaadi' and 'The Ghazi Attack' and will be seen in two more films namely 'Naam Shabaana' (believed to be a sequel to 'Baby') and 'Judwaa 2'. However, The actress says that it is just a coincidence that four of her films are releasing in the same year.'Some of these like 'Running Shaadi' and 'The Ghazi Attack' are much delayed films that happened to be released at this time." Her last film 'Running Shaadi ' may have evoked a mixed response from the audience but Tapsee feels that the film is a turning point in her career. 'Running Shaadi is an important film in my career in Bollywood. For, it is because of this film that I got 'Baby' and 'Pink'," she said. "Running Shaadi has been a turning point in my career in the Hindi film industry. This is because as an actor I changed a lot due to Running Shaadi. When I did Hindi films after doing nine to 10 films down South, I had a lot of inhibitions. All of these were removed while working in Running Shaadi. It is only after this that I got Baby and Pink. So, in a way a lot of credit for my work in Baby and Pink goes to Running Shaadi,'she said. UNI AR PY 0950
