Hyderabad, Aug 11 (UNI) Reigning National champion Sourabh Verma won the Hyderabad Open Badminton title after a thrilling win over Singapore's Loh Kean Yew in the men's singles final here at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on Sunday.
The seven seeded Sourabh showed great composure and outclassed the World No 44 Kean Yew 21-13, 14-21, 21-16 in a 52-minute hard-fought contest.
Sourabh won the first game quite comfortably while his rival Kean Yew made a comeback in the second game, making the third game a decider.
The decider was a close one as Sourabh and Kean Yew started on an even contest before the Indian grabbed a 11-10 lead at the interval. At the end, Sourabh extended his lead and beat the Singaporean in a close contest.
The 26-year-old from Madhya Pradesh had earlier won the Slovenian International in May this year. Sourabh had also won two Super 100 titles last year at the Dutch Open and Russian Open.
Meanwhile, India's Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy lost to S Korean duo of Baek Ha Na and Jung Kyung Eun by 21-17, 21-17 in the women’s doubles final.
