Hyd: K Reddy expresses gratitude to PM for increasing MSP

Hyderabad, June 22 (UNI) Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the farmers of Telangana for enhancing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 13 types of crops.

Speaking to the media at the BJP state headquarters in Nampally on Saturday, Reddy highlighted the benefits of the increased MSP for crops like rice and cotton, asserting that the Modi government is a pro-farmer government.

Reddy provided historical context, noting that the Minimum Support Price Policy was introduced in 1966. From 1966 to 2014, the MSP per quintal of rice remained at Rs 1300. However, in the last ten years, the Modi government has increased the MSP by one thousand rupees to Rs 2300 per quintal of rice. Similarly, the MSP for cotton has been increased by Rs. 501 per quintal, now standing at Rs 7,121.

Reddy criticized the Congress government for failing to fulfill its promises to the people of Telangana, particularly regarding job appointments. He pointed out that after coming to power, Congress ignored its promise of releasing a job calendar and making job appointments. He accused the Congress government of acting against the implementation of its promises.

He mentioned that Sonia Gandhi sent a letter with her signature to every household, promising that six guarantees would be implemented within 100 days. However, Reddy stated that apart from guaranteeing free travel for women in RTC buses, all other guarantees have been neglected.

He highlighted the unfulfilled promises under the Mahalakshmi scheme, which included financial assistance of Rs 2500, scooters for college-going girls, Rs 5 lakh education insurance cards for students, and a stipend of Rs 4,000 for the unemployed.
