HSPCB to honour Jind girl for reporting case of crop residue burning

Chandigarh, Oct 27 (UNI) The Haryana State Pollution Control Board has decided to honour and reward Sonali Shepkhand, a Jind girl from Dhakhal village of Narwana, with a cash award of Rs 11,000 for her exemplary contribution to the cause of prevention of crop residue/stubble burning in the state.
The girl had reported the case of crop residue burning by her father to the local pollution control authorities. Her complaint had attracted her father a penalty of Rs 2,500.
It is learnt that she advised her father against burning the paddy crop residue as it would harm nature and damage the environment. However, when her father went ahead with burning the stubble she promptly reported the matter to the district level committee constituted by the Environment Department for prevention of crop residue burning in the district.
