HP scholarship Scam: CBI files charge-sheet against 12 accused

Shimla, Mar 30 (UNI) State Unit of Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday filed first charge-sheet against
the 11 accused in Shimla CBI court and Special Judge Shimla in multi-crore scholarship scam, spokesman of CBI confirmed.
Spokesman of CBI Mr R K Gaur said that 11 accused who are charged are Arvind Rajta, then Dealing Hand/Supdt. G-II, Smt. Mala Mehta, then DDO -cum- Asstt. Director, Shriram Sharma, then Supdt G-1-cum DDO, Surinder Mohan Kanwar, then Supdt G-1-cum-DDO, Ashok Kumar, then Supdt G-1-cum- DDO, Virender Kumar, then Supdt G-1-cum-DDO (All then Officials of Directorate of Higher Education, Shimla).
Smt. Saroj Sharma, then Campus Director, K. C Group of institutions Pandoga, Una, (HP), Dr. B. S. Sandhu, then Campus Director, K. C. Group of institutions, Pandoga, Una, Hitesh Gandhi, then Vice Chairman/ Owner of K. C. Group of Institutions, Pandoga, Una, Prem Pal Gandhi, then Chairman/Owner ,K. C. Group of Institutions, Pandoga,Una Smt. Kiran Choudhary, then Officiating Principal, K. C.Group of Institutions, Pandoga, Una and Surinder Pal Singh, then Head Cashier, Central Bank of India, Nawanshahr, (Punjab).

CBI had registered a case on May 7, 2019 on the request of Himachal Pradesh Government and taken over the investigation of a case earlier registered by State Police against unknown persons on the allegations of misappropriation of funds in the disbursement of Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships.
All the accused were booked under sections 409, 419, 465, 466 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code regarding
the alleged scholarship scam in Himachal Pradesh.
The counsel for the CBI sought the custody of three accused who were arrested by the agency in case related to Scholarship scam.
It was alleged that serious irregularities took place in disbursal of Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarships of
more than Rs 220 crore (approx.) between 2013-14 & 2016-17 under State and Central Government sponsored schemes or SC/ST/OBC/MC students by the Department of Education, Himachal Pradesh.
It was further alleged that the Income/Caste Certificates of alleged students were not genuine.
CBI had earlier conducted searches at the location of 21 private institutes. During investigation, role of certain accused was found.
Further investigation is continuing in this case and more arrest could be made by another CBI branches in the country as agency is zeroing multiple accused found indulged in this scam, CBI official confirmed.
