HP High Court upholds extension of VC amidst challenge over "invalid" selection

Shimla, Oct 10 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh High Court today dismissed a petition challenging the extension granted to Dr. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel as the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni.
The court, while acknowledging flaws in his original appointment, ruled that the Chancellor's decision to extend his term was legally permissible.
The petition, filed by Dr. Dharam Paul Sharma, a Dean at the university, contended that Dr. Chandel's initial appointment in May 2022 was illegal.

Haryana police tightens crackdown on drunk and rash driving after 4,000 fatal accidents

Chandigarh, Nov 10 (UNI) Alarmed by the rising number of road accidents in Haryana, the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur has ordered a state-wide campaign against reckless and drunken driving, calling the spate of crashes a “human-created calamity.”
According to police data, more than 4,000 people have lost their lives in traffic mishaps between January and October this year, five times higher than deaths from violent crimes.
