Shimla, Sep 11 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh government on Friday passed two new bills to amend the HP Municipal Corporation Act 1994 & HP Municipal Act 1994 in the state Assembly during the ongoing monsoon session.
Moving the bills, Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said that provisions would relax the criteria for declaring the new Municipal Corporation and Municipality as their populations of urban areas exceeding 40,000 may be declared MC subject to fulfilling the statutory requirement.
He said that the last census was undertaken nine years ago since it may have crossed the saturation limit of 50,000 yet could not be declared MC due to non availability of updated date as the new census would take place in 2021 and it would take considerable time for finalizing the data as the report of Census delayed due to Covid pandemic.
