Hours after meeting Modi, Uddhav Thackeray meets Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) Amid differences in the ruling alliance in Maharashtra over implementation of the National Population Register (NPR) and the upcoming Rajya Sabha election in April, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his son and Minister of Maharashtra government Aditya Tackeray, on Friday, met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, at latter's official residence.

Along with Thackerays, senior Shiv Sena leaders Sanjay Raut and Milind Narvekar and AICC general secretary in-charge of Maharashtra Mallikarjun Kharge were also present at the meeting.

Mr Thackeray's meeting with Ms Gandhi took place hours after the former met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital.

Soruces said that during his first visit to Delhi after he took charge as Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr Thackeray is also scheduled to meet other leaders, including senior BJP leader LK Advani.

Mr Thackeray, after meeting with the Prime Minister, said that he had discussed issues like Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and NPR and added that, "no should be scared of CAA".

"The CAA is not to take away citizenship from anyone. However, this law is about giving citizenship to the minorities of the neighboring countries", he added.

Mr Thackeray's meeting with the Congress chief is crucial as there are rumours of differences in the alliance partners, Shiv Sena, NCP and the Congress, on number of issues including NPR and the decision to hand over the Bhima-Koregaon case to the NIA.
