Horse trading charges over resignation of four Rebel AIADMK MLAs : Madras HC reservers orders on CBI probe plea

Chennai, June 16 (UNI) The Madras High Court on Tuesday reserved its orders on a petition seeking a CBI probe into the charges of horse trading in connection with the quitting of four Rebel MLAs, who had supported the confidence vote of the TVK government in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, and subsequently switching over to the ruling TVK.
The resignation of four rebel MLAs--Ms Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam-SC constituency), S Jayakumar (Perundurai), P Sathyabama (Dharapuram-SC) and Esakki Subbaiya (Ambasamudram) resigned as MLAs and switched over to the TVK--were accepted by Speaker and their seats were later notified as vacant and the Election Commission of India will soon hold the bye-elections to these seats, along with two other seats--Tiruchy East and Viralimalai which was vacated by another AIADMK MLA and former Minister Dr C VIjayabaskar today.
The resignation of four MLAs and joining the TVK at the Minister's chamber in the State Secretariat within minutes after putting in their papers, fuelled allegations of horse-trading. During the Trust vote on May 13, 25 Rebel MLAs, including the five resigned legislators, voted for the Government violating the Party Whip, leading to a split in the AIADMK Legislature, which was later resolved after 21 of them tendered an apology for their act following a patch up and the Speaker dropped the disqualification proceedings against them.
