Hope govt honours SC direction to use Haj subsidy money for uplift of minorities: Cong

New Delhi, Jan 16 (UNI) While noting that the decision of the Government to abolish the Haj subsidy was pursuant to a 2012 Supreme Court order, the Congress on Tuesday expressed the hope that the Centre would also implement the second part of the apex court order -- to use the subsidy amount for the development and uplift of the minorities.
Talking to reporters here, AICC senior spokesperson and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said, ''the withdrawal of the Haj subsidy is as per the directions of a Supreme Court bench in 2012 headed by J Aftab Alam, directing abolition of Haj subsidy within 10 years.
''The Government has withdrawn the Haj subsidy four years before the date prescribed by the Supreme Court. We have no issue with it. Now that the first part of the Supreme Court judgement has been implemented by the government, I am sure that the second part of the judgement will also be implemented. I hope that the amount saved by the abolition of the subsidy will be used for the development, welfare and education of the minorities.''
