Historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar reopens after one-day closure

Srinagar, June 22 (UNI) The historic Jamia Masjid in the downtown Srinagar reopened after remaining closed to prevent any protests on Thursday when separatists had called for a general strike in protest against the murder of senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari and death of civilians in security force action.
All gates of Masjid, stronghold of chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, which were locked yesterday when nobody was allowed to enter the worship place, are open today.
Security forces and police personnel deployed yesterday have also been withdrawn. The Jamia market was also open.

Itanagar, Mar 29 (UNI) In a repeat of previous poll outcomes, the hilly Northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh is ‘set’ to witness seven candidates from ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including Chief Minister Pema Khandu, getting elected 'unopposed' to the 11th Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh, 'without a contest'.
After ‘complete’ scrutiny of nominations filed for all 60 Assembly Constituencies, including the ‘adjourned’ scrutiny of papers done for Itanagar and Daporijo seats today, altogether seven validly nominated BJP candidates were found to be opponent free, and they are likely to be declared elected unopposed on Saturday after the last date of withdrawal of candidature, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Liken Koyu said.
