Himachal's Kinnaur sets example of community resilience after flash flood

Shimla, July 19 (UNI) The residents of Rakchham village in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district have emerged as a symbol of community resilience after a cloudburst-triggered flash flood struck the Mastrang area, with Mahila Mandal members and villagers joining hands to assist Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel, stranded travellers and affected residents in the aftermath of the disaster.
The flash flood, triggered by a cloudburst in the Graga Nallah on Saturday evening, sent a large volume of water, mud, boulders and debris into the campus of the 2nd Battalion of the ITBP at Mastrang. The deluge disrupted barracks, kitchens and other essential facilities, while also blocking the Sangla-Chitkul road after heavy debris accumulated on the route.
Despite the widespread damage caused by the floodwaters, no casualties or injuries among ITBP personnel or civilians were reported, providing major relief to the administration.
