Himachal HC forms SIT to probe 13 bigha land encroachments

Shimla, Apr 26 (UNI) Taking major action against 13 self-style big land encroachers who are illegally occupying around 2800 bighas of state land for many years, the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Thursday formed a Special Investigation Unit comprising police, forest and revenue officers.
Hearing the matter, a division bench of acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Tralok Singh Chauhan passed this order directing the SIT to ensure eviction of 13 encroachers who are occupying more than 100 bigha of state forest lands as the matter is subjudice.
After three-year-long drive, the High Court found that the state government, Officer of Forest, Revenue and Administration did not act swiftly against them forcing the court to form SIT to be monitored by the court.
