Beijing, Feb 5 (UNI) At least 16 people were killed and another 66 injured when five road accidents involving 49 vehicles occurred on a highway in central China's Hunan province, regional road traffic police said on Sunday.
The multi-vehicle collision happened on Saturday at around 5 p.m. local time (09:00 GMT) on an expressway and caused some vehicles to catch fire, the police said.
"Within about 10 minutes there were five traffic accidents, one accident involving seven vehicles in which seven people were killed, three accidents involving 11, 10 and nine vehicles, respectively, each resulting in three deaths, another accident involving 12 vehicles was without casualties. Sixty-six people were injured in the accidents," the road traffic police said on social media.
Road traffic has resumed on the segment of the highway where the accident occurred. The authorities are investigating the crash and repairing the damage.
